The Sultanate Participates in the Meeting of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction in Manama

The Sultanate participates in the 5th Arab Housing Conference and the 35th session of the Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction Council Forum currently held in the Bahraini capital Manama from 11 to 13 of this month. The Sultanate is represented by HE Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Shabibi, Minister of Housing and his accompanying delegation.

The 5th Arab Housing Conference, which started on Tuesday and ends on Wednesday, will be under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Aal Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, representing His Majesty the King of Bahrain. The conference will discuss four themes, the first theme focuses on reviewing housing policies, programs and supportive plans of sustainable urban development by redrawing the role of the public sector in the field of social housing as well as offering solutions and innovative initiatives that contribute to sustainable housing. The second theme focuses on enhancing the role of the private sector in providing social housing projects and focusing on the most important challenges and solutions to activate the partnership between the public and private sectors.

The third theme deals with facilitating the citizens access to an adequate funding to own houses. The fourth theme provides practical experiences between public and private sectors in activating the partnership with the private sector and the beneficiaries, reviewing the steps taken in that regard as well as the results thereof.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers of Housing and Urban Development, which will be held on Thursday, will address a number of issues related to the housing sector, most notably the Arab Housing Conference, the Arab Housing Day, the Council’s Award, and the updates on the Council’s website and the design of the database to activate the Council’s goals.

The Ministers will also discuss mechanisms of cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Program, the Arab Ministerial Forum on Housing and Urban Development, Arab cooperation with regional groupings and foreign countries in the field of housing and reconstruction. This discussion will also involve follow-up to the implementation of the Global Sustainable Development Plan 2030 and the Implementation plan of the Arab Strategy for Housing and Urban Development, in addition to the issues of exchanging information among Arab countries on pilot projects in the field of housing, the conduct of a comprehensive assessment of the Council’s work in the housing and reconstruction sector, and finally submitting new proposals in the framework of the reform and development of Arab efforts in real estate financing.

The Council also will also discuss the support of the Republic of Somalia in training cadres in the housing, construction, legislation and laws governing the housing and reconstruction sector, presenting studies and experiments on the rehabilitation of cities affected by conflicts and natural disasters, the experiences of Arab countries on social housing, the unified account of specialized ministerial councils, and the account of Arab Council of Housing and Reconstruction Ministers for year 2018, beside other themes.

 The participating delegation includes Khalid bin Mahfoudh Al Busaidi, Head of the Office of Minister and Eng. Siham bint Ahmed Al Harthiya, Director General of Real Estate Development, Aziz bin Saud Al Mahrouqi, Assistant Director General for Social Housing and Khalil bin Ibrahim Al Aamri, Director of the Councils and Committees Department in the Minister’s Office.
